One thing I love about the cooler months is layering my outfits. It makes an outfit so much more fun to layer different pieces together in multiple ways to create a variety of looks. How many of you stick to blazers vs. cardigans? Vests vs. jackets? We are here to help you figure out which style of “finished pieces” such as jackets, cardigans, blazers, or vests are right for you and your personal style. If you haven’t already, make sure you take our What’s Your Style Quiz so you can get a better idea of what style genre you might fit into.
Our fashion objective for the month of February is: I understand my personal style and can create outfits to showcase it. Today our objective is: I can identify different styles of “finisher pieces” and evaluate which fits my personal style the best. Each week during the month of February we will be learning about the following components in order to help you understand your personal style so you can learn how to put outfits together that fit your fashion preferences:
- Week 1: Tops
- Week 2: Bottoms
- Week 3: Finisher Pieces (jackets, cardigans, vests)
- Week 4: Accessories/Shoes (jewelry, scarves, bags, shoes)
We will be exploring 6 style genres- classy, casual, edgy, sporty, posh-professional, and glam. Keep in mind that you may be drawn to more than one genre, and that is just fine! Many of us like different genres but are most drawn to one, our goal is to figure out which genre best fits you!
Classy finisher pieces include cardigans that are usually a bit more fitted or heavily knitted and loose. Fitted jackets, blazers, wool trench coats and pea coats also look more classy. If you are looking for a classy look then a puff or quilted vest could be a good fit as well.
Casual finisher pieces are usually made with soft, wearable fabrics. These pieces could include quilted or puff jackets or vests, bomber jackets, denims jackets and vests, over-sized cardigans, and fur on the hoods of vests and coats.
Edgy finisher pieces are usually made with distressed, acid washed, or leather fabrics. These pieces include denim vests and jackets that are distressed or acid washed, leather jackets and vests, and over-sized cardigans that are usually a bit distressed. Embellishments include metal studding, embroidery, zipper details, and buckles.
Sport finisher pieces are usually very comfortable and breathable. These could include zip-up hoodies, 1/4 zip-up jackets, mesh jackets, and quilted vests and jackets.
Posh-Professional finisher pieces are usually made with heavier fabrics that lay flat and stiff in order to give a polished look. These could include blazers (with or without trim detail), vests with lapels, and pea coats. Design details can include symmetrical balanced designs, hounds tooth print or other softer prints, and fur collars on coats.
Glam finisher pieces are made to stand out a bit more. These design details could include leopard and other bold and busy prints, fur collars and fabrics, embellished denim, and metallic fabrics.
