The Peter Pan collar is a fashion design detail that I absolutely adore.  This collar, originating in 1905, has been considered a fashion trend, on and off, for over a century.  Adding this collar to the top of a blouse or dress creates such an interesting design to the neckline.  The Peter Pan collar is a great addition for girls of all ages; whether you’re dressing your 3-year-old in a darling shift dress, yourself in a gorgeous a-line dress, or your grandmother in a sophisticated drop-waist dress, this collar looks great on just about anybody.  If you haven’t tried giving this fashion trend a try, I dare you to give it a shot!

Permanent cosmetics has always been something that has interested me and also terrified me. I feel like anytime you hear permanent cosmetics you think of a solid black eyebrow tattoo or dark red lips.  Permanent/semi-permanent cosmetics have come a long way.  Taby Davila Castro is an amazing certified SofTap Permanent Makeup Technician and has mastered this art.  She works out of Studio K Salon located in Orem, Utah on State Street.  She is a friendly, genuine, outgoing professional that makes you feel at ease and comfortable about getting semi-permanent cosmetics done.  Taby was extremely thorough in answering questions and addressing the concerns I had.  She walked me step-by-step through the process which helped calm my nerves.

Now, I am going to walk you through my experience in case you are feeling the same way I was; interested, nervous and scared.  Check out our Facebook Live video to watch some of this procedure.

image

Taby uses a technique called SofTap.  The major differences between SofTap and Micro-blading are: Micro-blading lasts 6-12 months whereas SofTap lasts normally 3-5 years.  Touch ups are recommended every 1-2 years.  SofTap is not as intrusive on the skin but still creates the same 3-D hair stroke look.

My eyebrows took a little under two hours to complete.  During this time these are the steps Taby accomplished:
  1. She penetrated my skin with a prong (this felt similar to getting your eyebrows plucked).
  2. She numbed my brows with a topical anisthetic gel called Magic.
  3. She started applying SofTap pigment (this pigment is made of all natural minerals).
  4. She applied strokes for a base.
  5. She applied more strokes to make the shape permanent.
  6. She finished by accomplishing all the detail work.

Throughout the process, Taby was very precise. She consistently gave me a mirror and asked me how I liked the shape and size of my brows.  She was open about listening to my feedback, making sure it looked just right for me.

Here are some of the questions I had previous to my appointment that Taby answered for me.

My Questions:

  • Is this a tattoo? Similar, but this procedure is completed with an instrument by hand, where no machines are used. The pigment only penetrates the top few layers of the skin, lasting 3-5 years; whereas a tattoo lasts forever.
  • Do you shave my eyebrow off? No, I work with your natural eyebrow line to enhance your natural beauty.
  • How much does it cost? $350 and a six week touch up is included in that cost.  If I do your permanent makeup then any other touch-ups in the future are half of the initial cost.
  • How long does it last? Normally 3-5 years
  • How often should I get touch-ups? Every 1-2 years
  • How long does it take to heal? 7-10 days
  • What steps do I take in the healing process? Make sure and use the ointment I give you every 2-3 hours to keep them hydrated and moist. Also, drink lots of water.
  • Can I wear makeup through the healing process? Yes, just not anywhere on the pigment.
  • Does the pigment look exactly like it does on the first day getting it done? No, throughout the 7-10 day healing process it will lighten about 40 percent.
  • Can I take Ibuprofen before the procedure for pain? No, you do not want to take any medication that will thin your blood.
  • Does it hurt? People say it feels similar to getting your eyebrows plucked. (I felt it hurt even less)
  • Do you do anything other than eyebrows? Yes, I do eyebrows, eyeliner, lip liner, full lips, and beauty marks.

If you have other questions, please feel free to comment below and we will get those answered for you.

MY GO TO SUMMER SMOOTHIE RECIPE

School is out for the Summer!  With that being said, Summer brings sunshine and my mind starts thinking smoothie time!  My go to Summer smoothie recipe is super quick and easy and of course, delicious!  I love having one for breakfast or as a healthy treat throughout the day!

image

Summer Smoothie:

*Makes one large glass as seen in pic above

1/2-1 cup frozen berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, whatever berries you have handy)

1 (6 oz.) container of yogurt (Tillamook is my favorite)

1/2 cup of apple juice

1/2 cup water

A handful of spinach

1 scoop of whey protein (if you are having the smoothie as a meal replacement)

1/2 banana

I love this smoothie recipe because it is so quick and simple to make, I’m all about convenience. Normally I don’t use measuring cups, I just add a little of everything and blend it up in my amazing Nutri Ninja $88.88 (I use this blender multiple times a day).  If that causes you stress (you need to check out our de-stressing ideas) then you are welcome to use the measurements listed above.

Enjoy;)

When I am rushing, I use pencil liner. It’s easy to apply and I don’t worry about making a mess. Also, I often want a soft line enhancing my eyes, pencil liner does just that.

Moms Done Up

One of my biggest fears in becoming a mom was no longer having time for myself.  While finding time for myself has been a challenge, when I do take a little bit of time for myself it makes a world of a difference in my self-confidence.  My “get ready routine” has gone from timeless primping to the 3-3-3 challenge (3 minute shower, 3 minute hairstyle, 3 minute make up) while my baby is taking a cat nap!  But, every once in a while I take that much-needed time for myself and spend some extra time getting myself ready.  These are the days I feel the most confident in my appearance, and that, my friends, brings an unbelievable amount of much-needed confidence as a new mom.

Here are some fun guidelines to help you be successful in “Doing Yourself Up”:

Whitney

image(11)[1]

Whit’s Tips:

  • Curl your hair
  • Do a dramatic smoky eye shadow
  • Break out the leather (I love wearing these black leather pants with the white leather jacket)
  • Wear heels (mine are small heels but they still do the trick)
  • Add a matching clutch or bag

image(53)[1]

image(5)[1]

Lese’s Tips:

  • Straighten your hair and then do something fun with the front (poof, french braid, twist).
  • Throw a coordinating cardigan over a tank top to bring out the color in the tank.
  • Wear skinny jeans to help elongate your legs.
  • Wedges are great if you struggle wearing heels, they are much easier to walk in.
  •  Add a clutch or hand bag to finish off the look

Now spend that much-needed time on yourself so you can feel confident again!  It will help you be a better wife, mom, friend, etc. when you are confident in yourself.  Get out there and work it because you still “got it”!!

De-stress

image

My mom, sister, sister in-law, and myself went to a darling paint shop and created these cute birthday plates for our kids to use on their birthdays. This girls outing was so much fun! We were able to talk, laugh, visit and de-stress together!

Speaking of de-stressing… You know the popular saying, “Don’t stress the small stuff”? I’ve always wondered who created this antagonizing statement. When you are overly busy and have multiple responsibilities like 95% or more of us do, then all of those little things add up into one ginormous stress, leaving us feeling completely deflated, worn out, anxious, stressed and exhausted. We wish we could all go to an exotic place and de-stress, but just thinking about the cost of that rendezvous continues to heighten our stresses. So, I am here to give you a few of my favorite ideas on how to de-stress that I have found work for me:

My Go Tos for De-stressing

  1. Hot bubble bath with or without candles (my absolute favorite)
  2. Neck and shoulder rubs (even if you have to do it yourself)
  3. Yoga (my weekend favorite)
  4. Breathing deeply and controlled for a full minute (repeat as many times as needed)
  5. Hand and foot rubs with lotion or essential oils
  6. Quiet time: reading, meditating, writing, or any other quiet activity you enjoy
  7. Walking, jogging or running
  8. Exercising
  9. Watching your favorite television show
  10. Stretching
  11. Listening to calm or de-stressing music
  12. Chamomile tea
  13. Painting
  14. Drawing
  15. Listening to music
  16. Hiking to somewhere beautiful
  17. Pilates
  18. Softball
  19. Laying out in the sun
  20. Lounging in the shade
  21. GNO (Girls Night Out)
  22. Bunko group
  23. Shopping/outing with friends
  24. Going on vacation if the funding won’t stress you!

Leave a comment and let us know some of your favorite ways to de-stress and we will add to this list!

Happy De-stressing!
